How To Tend the Human Soul

By Linda Fisher Thornton

In this blog post called How to Tend the Human Soul, I’m digging into what we know about the human soul and how to nurture it.

Since not everyone believes in the human soul, it’s not typically going to appear on a list of “self care” items people manage, like exercise, sleep or diet. In this post, I will make the case for why it’s important to tend the human soul, and how to do that. Start by watching this video of Jane Goodall as she talks about the soul.

Tending the Human Soul

Peruse these quotes that share reflections on the human soul and what nurtures it:

“Joy, feeling one’s own value, being appreciated and loved by others, feeling useful and capable of production are all factors of enormous value for the human soul.”

Maria Montessori

Art is the window to man’s soul. Without it, he would never be able to see beyond his immediate world; nor could the world see the man within.

Lady Bird Johnson

Since love grows within you, so beauty grows. For love is the beauty of the soul.

Saint Augustine

Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul – and sings the tunes without the words – and never stops at all.

Emily Dickinson

Love, joy, hope, nature, beauty, a life purpose, and good work to do. Do these simple, yet elusive elements feed the human soul?
